It has been confirmed that original actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are returning to their iconic characters in the next chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The project is now in the works.
A Significant Return to Panem
Lawrence and Hutcherson are returning as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the characters they made famous. It is believed their appearance will take the form of a future-set scene, as the main film series concluded with their characters married and with children.
This represents the sixth installment in the global Hunger Games franchise.
The Source Material
Sunrise on the Reaping is adapted from a newly published work by author Suzanne Collins. It acts as the follow-up prequel after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Returning to the director's chair is Francis Lawrence, who was behind most of the previous films in the series.

The film's narrative are set in the years leading up to the first Hunger Games, spotlighting a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, who would later become Katniss's mentor, is shown as a tribute in the notorious 50th Hunger Games.
